Famous Expeditions From The Past
There have been many famous expeditions in history but you will find that it is usually the first person to complete an expedition that will go down in history. These are not your normal types of expeditions. The people who went on these initial expeditions into the unknown were unassisted by the modern day camping equipment that is now available.
Using this new modern equipment people are able to make expeditions previously though to be not possible. The specialised clothing along with much warmer sleeping bags and more comfortable rucksacks coupled with generally lighter equipment means you are now able to stay much more protected from the elements.
People have been all around the world and some have even left the planet. If you feel like going somewhere very few people have been before you can take part in arctic courses and learn what it takes to survive in the Arctic. If you want to try some adventurous winter activities then why not try some nordic skiing.
Although you don’t have to be confined to just winter activities there are many other expeditions you can take part in. Some popular and fun expeditions include white water rafting and canoeing expeditions.
Sir Edmund Hillary was part of the first team to successfully complete an Everest expedition. He was born during the beginning of the 20th century and was part of a two man team who successfully climbed Everest in 1953.
Credited with discovering the New World, Christopher Columbus was in fact looking for Asia but instead ended up in what today is known as the Caribbean. He first touched down in the Caribbean, which he later went on to explore in more depth.
It has to be the greatest expeditions of all time. Repeated by only a few other people in the world the moon landing was one of humanities greatest expeditions, which saw Neil Armstrong to be the first man on the moon. Guided by literally hundreds of flight controllers the famous astronauts of the Apollo 11 spacecraft were able to safely touch down on the moon and make space history.
